Indy's 1 month update!

We have spent one whole month with our Indy Grace on the outside of my belly!
One crazy, whirlwind of a month...

The first weeks are always a blur, but with Indy, it has been even more so than it has with our last two babies.
The first week home with her was perfect!
Jake was home with us for the first half, and the older two adapted to having a new baby sister better than I had anticipated.
Everything felt right.
During that first week, Indy met more friends and family, went strawberry picking with us, went to the farmers market, and had her newborn pictures taken.
At the beginning of her second week home, we welcomed her new baby cousin Pearl!
The following Monday was when everything got crazy.
Our basement flooded, and long story short, a lot of stuff was ruined.
We ended up ripping everything out.

I said long story short, but I guess I am going to go on and now make it a long story.
The whole basement thing was a disaster.
It took Jake away from us for over a week.
For the entire week following, we really didn't see him at all other than at bed time.
That was hard...
It was hard on Mav and Nixie because not only were they missing their daycare friends that they were so used to having at our house, they now were missing their dad too.
There were lots of meltdowns...and they weren't all from the kids.
It was hard on me as I was still overly emotional thanks to postpartum hormones.
I was tired, overwhelmed, and I missed my husband.

It may sounds ridiculous, but I felt like I was mourning the loss of how I imagined those first few weeks with Indy would be.
From the beginning of my pregnancy, I looked forward to those peacful times when we would put the older kids to bed, relax on the couch, snuggle her, and enjoy all of that newborn squishiness.
It only lasts a short time, and I was sad that we wouldn't get it back.
We had that time with Mav and Nixon...I wanted that with her too.

On top of our basement flooding, within two weeks, Nixon had to make a surprise visit to the cardiologist, our chest freezer went out in the middle of the night, and our air conditioner stopped working.
We were thrown quite a few curveballs.
It was tough.

Things are getting better now.
Thank the Lord!

We have been blessed with some amazing people in our lives.
I am so thankful for our friends and family that have helped make all of it a bit easier on us.

We had friends that dropped what they were doing that night to come help clear the basement out...
Friends that did our laundry after many of our storage totes with clothes ended up floating which then caused them to tip over and let in water...
We had friends that provided us with food...
Friends that watched our kids while we attempted to start cleaning...
Friends that are still helping us clean the rest of the mess slowly...
I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

When I thought about writing Indy's one month update, I was going to leave all of those messy parts out.
I obviously decided not to.

I wanted to share them because although those first weeks weren't how I imagined them, and although they were some of the most stressful weeks we have been through as a family,
they have served us as a reminder of how blessed we are to have so many people that love us.
They really lived out that love over these past few weeks.
I don't know what we would have done without these people.
We are so grateful.

Now, a bit about our Indy Grace...

Indy is such a good baby
She is sooo sweet!
She has dealt with kisses, pokes, and jabs from her siblings, and she hardly ever complains as they lovingly pull at limbs while she tries to eat.
Mav and Nixie love her.
She has bright blue eyes that aren't showing any signs of turning brown just yet.
Nixon's were never blue and Mav's were dark at birth with a hint of blue.
I guess we will just have to wait to see what color hers will be!
She has been struggling with a bit of reflux, but we are attempting to get that under control.
She already seems to be doing better!
She doesn't cry very often, but makes little grunt noises when she wants to tell us something.
I have no idea how much she weighs.
The last time we weighed her was at her two week appointment but her double chin is telling me that she is gaining just fine :)
She is already very strong and loves to hold her head up for short amounts of time.
She hates being put into her car seat, and isn't a fan of car rides unless she is sleeping.
She loves being held upright...probably because of the reflux.
She loves laying on the couch with Mav when he watches movies with dad before bed.
She has brown hair, and it looks like she has a lot until we put her next to her cousin Pearl.
I have a feeling she will lose most of it and look like an old man for a bit...that's what happened to Mav's.
She is a great eater, and sleeps about 4 hours between night time feeds right now.
That gives me a nice break :)

We love our Indy Grace and have loved getting to know her better over this past month.
On to month two!
